I found Salicylic acid also kills my dandruff when they removed Salicylic acid from Alpecin Dandruff Killer shampoo ( in the new formula) and the shampoo stopped working for me . So now add Salicylic acid to all my shampoo 
or use pre mixed Salicylic acid shampoo . This takes the guesswork out of mixing Salicylic acid. Salicylic acid powder alone is very cheap on eBay but difficult to measure correctly to make 2% solution.
